I'm Chris Waugh. I provide targeted business consulting services in Oregon, and specialize in management, marketing and professional development. My passion is lending wings to your success.

I've published four books: Leadership In Change, Flying by the Seat of Your Pants, Updrafts: Insights that Lend Wings to Your Success, and Misty Memories of Guard Island. I was also an author in Speaking of Success, along with Ken Blanchard, Jack Canfield, Stephen Covey, and other. My weekly column, "Success On The Fly" appears in the business section of the Newport News Times Newspaper.

Before I was old enough to work, I volunteered for more than a year in a local hospital. When I reached an employable age, they hired me. I secured a scholarship and went to the community college and studied business. During those fledgling years, I supported myself, became a nurse's aide, and built an awareness of the importance of service - to my patients, their families, the nurses and doctors, and my co-workers.

Then my path lead me into the banking industry, beginning as a bank teller and after a ten-year climb, I held a position as a commercial loan officer. I learned the financial details of management, yet noticed that money wasn't enough to ensure success of a business enterprise. I began to study the personalities of successful people, and the relationships within thriving business operations.

During the next fifteen years, I created, built and operated a trio of tourist attractions, a restaurant and two retail gift shops. With dozens of Gen-X and Gen-Y minimum wage employees, I experimented and refined my successful leadership style, and ultimately accepted an international customer service award on behalf of my staff.

Next, as chief operations officer for a medical device manufacturing company, I traveled extensively to market the product, while engaging a self-directed work team to qualify the process for ISO 9002 certification, and move the factory to a new location - without a hiccup in production or shipping. I discovered that the motivation and productivity issues for these highly compensated employees were the same ones I faced with minimum wage teenagers.

I draw insights from other experiences. As an advanced hang glider pilot, I discovered the importance of awareness and the ability to wing it in a turbulent world. As a singer in a swing-era trio, I've learned how to collaborate and improvise. I share lessons from kids, pets, and people in the grocery line. I get tips from the joys and sorrows of life. I even learned a valuable insight on teamwork when I almost drowned on a white-water raft trip.
